The quintet arrangement has the horns harmonized almost throughout, with the tenor sax playing a countermelody behind many of the longer notes of the trumpet melody. This recording is available as a series of Minus You tracks for all instruments.
It's probably safe to say that Fuego De Corazon is the longest song published by Second Floor Music. That does not mean there isn't competition; Personage of Wes by Buddy Montgomery, also a minor-key samba, is only two measures shorter!
Freddie Redd recorded this song on his 1990 album "Everybody Loves A Winner"; however, this recording is not available as a download. It is a trio version (with Bill Langlois on bass and Larry Hancock on drums) that is particularly unusual for two reasons. The form on the "in" head is made even longer by inserting extra A and B sections between the B and C sections: A-A-B-A-B-C-D! Freddie's solo chorus and the out head follow the original form as written in the lead sheet. Another unique quality of this trio recording is that the tempo just takes off—the end of the song is very close to twice as fast as the beginning!

Freddie Redd
May 29, 1928 – March 17, 2021
Pianist Freddie Redd, best known for his role as composer and actor in the play and movie "The Connection," started playing the piano when he was in the Army. Mostly self-taught, he learned while performing in clubs with other musicians. According to Nat Hentoff's liner notes to "Shades Of Redd," Freddie says he's "been influenced by many things I've heard on a lot of instruments. What I do is try to piece together what stimulates me into my own way of feeling things musically." Redd's music is simultaneously optimistic and knowing—it makes you want to play along with it, to join in the experience. Read more...
