The audio excerpt begins at the start of the melody, with the tenor sax playing the melody first, joined by trumpet on the repeat. The four-measure introductory vamp that sets up the melody is shown in the C treble clef lead sheet: the 2-against-3 piano part is written in 3/4 for the right hand and 2/4 for the left hand until the fourth measure, when both hands are clearly in 3/4; the drums play 3/4; and the bass plays a 1-feel.
Cecilia prefaced many of the tracks on her album with a short solo piano recording. The complete Pearl track starts with Cecilia's performance of His Eye Is On The Sparrow.

Cecilia first recorded Pearl in a trio context in 2006, and you can hear her freer interpretation of the melody on "Now And Then," which was also released in Japan as "Pearl." Cecilia recently recorded her own big band arrangement of Pearl and she's just released the big band CD, recorded by Rudy Van Gelder, "Oh Boy!."
