This is a delightful Tadd Dameron blues, with Tadd's trademark accentuations and melodic language—unmistakably a Dameron composition. Our audio clip starts with Tadd's four-measure ensemble intro, which we've included in all of the lead sheet editions. The alternate take from the original recording session is also available. Here's the Amazon link.
Tadd recorded his "The Magic Touch" album for Riverside Records over three sessions (February 27, March 9 and our session on April 16). Around this time, Tadd was also completing five big band arrangements of his original compositions for Benny Goodman's big band tour to Moscow (U.S.S.R) which took place from May 30-July 6, 1962. Tadd arranged Just Plain Talkin' along with three other compositions from "The Magic Touch" album for Goodman. Unfortunately, no Goodman recording or air check of a performance exists for Tadd's Just Plain Talkin' arrangement, but the arrangement itself does exist and is available from eJazzLines.com.
Another Dameron title, from the first "Magic Touch" session, Bevan's Birthday, is also on jazzleadsheets.com.

Tadd Dameron
February 21, 1917 – March 8, 1965
A giant of the bebop era, Dameron had a wonderful melodic and harmonic imagination which he brought to compositions and arrangements for both small and big bands. Writing first for Harlan Leonard, Jimmy Lunceford, Count Basie and Billy Eckstine, in the late '40s Dameron started composing and arranging for Dizzy Gillespie's big band. He also recorded his own superb sextet for Blue Note Records in 1947 which featured trumpet great Fats Navarro. Read more...
