A hard bop swinger that sets a bright mood, this song's key center is not obvious at the beginning of the head. The A section begins in D♭ major, switching to F major in the fourth measure. Though the key center ascends, the general melodic direction descends, using C (the 7th in D♭ and the 5th in F) to connect the key centers. The bridge changes directions: the changes descend, dominant 7ths from E♭7 to A7, while the melody largely ascends in more angular lines.
The coda tags the fifth and sixth measures of the C section, taking them up a minor third and back down, followed by a two-measure phrase based on the first two measures of the bridge. These last two measures have rhythm section hits descending in whole steps, a condensed version of the bridge changes.
On this recording there is an eight-measure drum intro. The melody is slightly different from that of our lead sheet, most notably in the second measure of the second A section. The "ands" of beats 3 and 4 here are A♭ and F as in the C section.

This is the third recording of Jet Stream. Peter first recorded it on his 1994 album "Signs Of Life;" that version is much slower (quarter note = 217 versus 263 on this version). In February 1998, Peter recorded it with German tenor saxophonist Jason Seizer on the latter's album "Serenity."

Our quintet arrangement (first and second parts) comes from this recording. There is a four-measure intro followed by four measures of drums, based on the beginning of the A section. The tenor sax and guitar harmonize on this intro; though the guitar has the higher part, the tenor part is the melody. The guitar also harmonizes above the melody on the last three measures of the second A section. More rhythm section hits are introduced in the bridge.
The intro is also used as a "send-off" for the drums. After a chorus of eights and a chorus of fours, there is one more chorus where the intro is played at the beginning of the A and C sections, leaving the rest of the chorus for the drums.
The Concert Condensed Score would be useful for the rhythm section; horn/guitar melody and harmony parts are available for this version.

"Cobb's Groove" is the second album by Jimmy Cobb's Mob, all of whom except the leader are jazzleadsheets.com composers: Peter Bernstein, Richard Wyands, John Webber, and on this recording Eric Alexander. The first "Cobb's Mob" album, a quartet without Alexander, was recorded in 1998.
The next recording of Jet Stream was by Grant Stewart on his 2007 album "Young At Heart," with Tardo Hammer, Peter Washington, and Joe Farnsworth. This version lacks an intro, but the "intro" figure from the Cobb recording is again used as a drum send-off for a chorus, followed by a chorus of drum solo only.

While Peter Bernstein plays the higher, second part of this quintet arrangement on "Cobb's Groove," we've also included the first part--both are written in the appropriate guitar octave.

Another quintet version, this one again slightly different. The intro is eight measures of drums again; the guitar harmonies from the Cobb version are still present in the second A section. Peter also adds a harmony part below the melody in the last two measures of the bridge, as well as the sixth measure of the C section and coda. There is no drum send-off, and the bridge lacks the rhythm section hits from the Cobb recording. The "and" of beat 2 in the second and fourth measures of the bridge is articulated shorter than in other versions, almost as a non-tied eighth note.
