We made this track at one of the sessions Rudy recorded at the Van Gelder Recording Studio. I ended the day having pianist Cecilia Coleman and bassist Tim Givens record a Miles-ish one-measure vamp track, with Cecilia adding beautiful right hand solo fills.
Years later, as I listened to this track, a four-measure opening statement established itself in my head. I decided to try to develop it over the piano/bass accompaniment track Cecilia and Tim had recorded for me.

Don Sickler, founder of jazzleadsheets.com, was born on January 6, 1944, in Spokane, Washington. Don took up the trumpet at the age of ten and two years later formed his own jazz combo. Don received his Bachelor’s Degree from Gonzaga University, then decided to further his career and studies in New York City at the Manhattan School of Music, where he received his Master’s Degree in Trumpet Performance in 1970.
