Blues For P.C. – Daryl Johns
This fun, swinging blues head was written by Daryl Johns at the age of 13. Daryl recorded it in an overdubbed 4-bass arrangement for our "Tribute To Paul Chambers" project. A score and parts for this arrangement are available, as well as Minus You melody parts for all instrumentalists to play with this unique multi-bass setting.

Our lead sheet shows detailed articulations. Daryl "lays back" part of the phrase in the seventh measure, indicated with forward arrows over the notes—a trademark of Paul Chambers' solo lines.
Blues For P.C. was recorded in an arrangement for four basses by Don Sickler, with Daryl overdubbing all the parts. The first bass has the melody, with rhythmic punctuations by the other basses. After the solos, there's a shout chorus of ensemble hits and melody breaks. This chorus is played four times, alternating between a chorus with written breaks (two basses at a time, in octaves) and a chorus with improvised solo breaks in the Bass 1 part. The score shows two choruses—one with written breaks and one with slashes for improvised breaks—repeated twice. In the parts, only one chorus is shown with all the written material and text indicating how the four repeats of that section are different.
This recording is also available in Minus You format; click on the second album cover for more details.
