This eclectic composition features a melody that searches through a nearly atonal scale. The harmony unexpectedly resolves, creating surprisingly sweet-sounding lines interspersed through the avant-garde piece that add intrigue. An important part of the magic of Dawn's compositions is her own performances of them, so we are including a lot of those nuances in all our lead sheet editions.
Our audio excerpt begins after the drum introduction at the start of the melody and continues through the head, fading out shortly before Dawn's piano solo. We have noted on the lead sheets that the tempo is a street beat into a medium swing: as you can hear from the excerpt, the New Orleans street beat vibe changes to swing in the B section.

Although she lives in the state of Washington, Dawn Clement is much in-demand as a pianist so often travels. When she's in New York, she rehearses at the jazzleadsheets.com studio with soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom. Dawn worked often with trombonist Julian Priester; they both recorded together at the Van Gelder Recording Studio for Don Sickler's Julian Priester Project, soon to appear on jazzleadsheets.com.
