A great little blues head where you can practice swallowing, ghosting and bending notes.
In 1954, Art Farmer became a Prestige Records recording artist leader. He recorded four sessions as a leader in that year alone. Pre Amp comes from the fourth of these sessions, Art's first in a quartet setting.
Transcribed Trumpet Solo: Don Sickler: "Art Farmer is truly one of the great ‘note’ players. What I mean by this is, he always comes up with perfect note choices as he develops his lines. As you can hear from our audio excerpt (the start of his second chorus trumpet), he really has his articulation chops together as he re-constructs the first four measures of the blues through his own type of I-VI-II-V progression. Important chord and note analysis is provided in the transcription."
August 21, 1928 – October 4, 1999
Featured in a recent JazzWax article, journalist Mark Myers says "there's simply too much great Art Farmer on Prestige during this early period to single out any one LP" as a perfect album! Check out Art and Gigi Gryce here and here. Read more...
