This Hank Mobley composition travels through an exotic minor Latin theme to a contrasting medium swing B section. It includes an interlude that follows the head and recurs between each solo—this interlude is included on all of our lead sheets. Our audio excerpt begins at the rhythm section introduction; after four bars, the horns join in with the melody (this introduction is notated on all lead sheets). The clip continues through the end of the A section. There are only a few horn harmony notes in the intro and the coda: every lead sheet shows all the notes. The original recorded Tenor Sax 2nd part is also available, for reading ease.
"Meet You At The Jazz Corner Of The World" was recorded remotely by the legendary Rudy Van Gelder at Birdland in New York City.
Drummer/leader Art Blakey always loved playing Hank's music, and this live Jazz Messengers session, a year and a half after Hank last recorded as a Messenger, contains three Hank Mobley compositions (played by Wayne Shorter on tenor sax). This was an intense and lengthy evening at Birdland, where they played (and Rudy Van Gelder recorded) five sets of music. Also check out High Modes and The Opener from this session.
