The audio clip starts with the three eighth-note C pedal organ (bass) pickups that set up the melody. The first two-measure pedal pattern under the melody is also used in the four-measure introduction which starts the recording. This intro is indicated in all lead sheet editions. Here really fits the mood of the album title, "Soul Groove." It's an AABA format with the two horns breaking into harmony, so second part editions are also available.
Don Sickler: "This was recorded on the second day of a two-session album project. Big John Patton played organ on the first day, on which Matthew Gee's Renee was recorded. I'm guessing Patton wasn't available for the second session, two days after the first, so who was asked to replace the great Big John Patton? I'm sure it's a surprising choice to many of you: Hank Jones on organ? It's not Hank's only recording on organ, but it is certainly one of his very few. And, as usual, the magical Hank Jones sounds like organ is his major instrument; just listen to his comping and his own organ solo. See Renee for more historical notes about this session."
