"Modern Jazz Perspectives" was the last album by the historic group, Jazz Lab Quintet (Donald Byrd/Gigi Gryce). These three classic Gigi Gryce songs were the only tracks recorded on the first day's session for the album, August 30, 1959. These hard bop classics were all first recorded by the Art Farmer/Gigi Gryce Quintet in 1955. Gigi rearranged them for this later session, especially Social Call which is much faster than the first version and in a different key.
